The Role: Tech Lead – AI Engineering

We seek an experienced tech lead with a strong background in AI and machine learning to shape the architecture and lead delivery in this fast-growing domain. This could be a senior engineer with several years of industry or applied research experience, or an exceptional graduate/post-doctoral researcher from leading institutions who has demonstrated technical leadership and is ready to step into a pioneering role.

This individual will work closely with our Responsible AI specialists and regulatory experts to translate governance and compliance principles into robust, real-world technology. This is a foundational leadership role that combines the stability of a permanent position with opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architecture & Build:
    • Define and lead the architecture of new systems.
    • Integrate open-source AI testing and assurance libraries into deployable frameworks.
    • Deliver lightweight, portable solutions in cloud environments.
  • AI Model Testing:
    • Build and rigorously test models against fairness, robustness, explainability, and governance principles.
    • Implement reproducible pipelines for evaluation, benchmarking, and reporting.
    • Create dashboards and artefacts suitable for supervisors, standards bodies, and clients.
  • Collaboration & Growth:
    • Partner with global Responsible AI leaders to advance the field.
    • Translate complex governance and compliance requirements into practical solutions.
    • Contribute to pilots, client delivery, and the long-term technical roadmap of our solutions.
Requirements
  • A proven track record building, training, and evaluating AI/ML models.
  • Experience developing or integrating AI testing and assurance tools.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and modern ML/AI libraries.
  • Experience with cloud computing and knowledge of scaling, training, and deployment of AI models.
  • Awareness of Responsible AI frameworks.
  • Hands-on familiarity with explainability and fairness tools.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and self-drive.
  • A collaborative style and ability to operate across technical and non-technical teams.
