Job Role: US Tax Associate

A key member of our tax team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional client service and expertise in US tax compliance, preparation, and advisory services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of US tax laws and regulations, with experience in preparing and reviewing 1040 and 1120 tax returns. Additionally, they will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work effectively as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review US personal and corporate income tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Apply US tax treaty provisions to cross-border tax transactions, providing expert guidance to clients on tax implications and strategies.
  • Assist with sales tax filings and registrations, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Support tax planning initiatives for cross-border transactions, identifying opportunities for tax savings and minimization.
  • Draft and organize working papers for income tax filings, ensuring clarity and ease of reference.
  • Aid in tax audits with the IRS, including client coordination and document preparation.
  • Work closely with senior staff and partners on tax strategies and planning, leveraging expertise to deliver exceptional results.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1–2 years' experience in tax preparation and review, with a focus on US personal and corporate income tax returns.
  • Public accounting/tax experience preferred, with a strong understanding of US tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Master of Commerce preferred), with a strong foundation in taxation and financial management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being proactive and detail-oriented.
  • Experience with tax software (e.g., Prosystems, FX, Gosystems, Drake Tax) is an asset, as is proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
