Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Generator Excitation Systems Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, modeling, and calibrating generator excitation systems and Power System Stabilizers (PSS) to ensure reliable and efficient operation of power generation systems.

This role involves developing and simulating PSS models to improve system stability and reduce low-frequency oscillations. Additionally, the candidate will tune excitation systems and PSS parameters to meet grid code requirements, operational performance objectives, and stability criteria.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of electrical engineering, control systems, and power system dynamics. Strong practical experience in enhancing the performance and stability of generators is also essential.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and simulate PSS models to improve system stability and reduce low-frequency oscillations.
  • Tune excitation systems and PSS parameters to meet grid code requirements, operational performance objectives, and stability criteria.
  • Develop and refine models for generator excitation systems, including Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) and associated control systems.
  • Perform field testing and validation of tuning parameters on operational generators.
  • Examine the dynamic performance of generators in the presence of various operating conditions and disturbances.
  • Identify and resolve problems associated with suboptimal PSS performance or malfunctions of the excitation system.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors, grid administrators, and power system engineers to ensure designs adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Offer technical mentorship for generator installations, retrofits, and improvements.
  • Generate comprehensive technical reports, model documentation, and refining procedures for regulatory bodies and internal teams.
  • Retain current records of test results, simulations, and designs.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in generator excitation system design, PSS modeling, and tuning within the power generation or utility industry.
  • Expertise in control theory, power system dynamics, and transient stability analysis.
  • Hands-on experience of generator protection and synchronization system design, engineering, and commissioning.
  • Proven achievements in delivering projects as per agreed schedules, within budget, innovation, and meeting highest quality standards.

  • Familiarity with hardware platforms for excitation systems.
  • Knowledge of grid codes and standards.
  • Confidence and interpersonal/communication skills to work and influence at all levels.
