Patent Drafting and Prosecution Specialist

We seek an experienced professional with a strong technical background in Computer Science or IT, and proven expertise in drafting patent applications and preparing office action responses across major jurisdictions.

About the Role

The ideal candidate should have at least 5-8 years of prior experience at a law firm or IP service company, managing and mentoring a small team of patent professionals while ensuring the highest standards of quality and client service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patent Drafting & Prosecution:
  • Draft high-quality patent applications in US, EP, and India.
  • Prepare and review responses to office actions from the USPTO, EPO, and Indian Patent Office.
  • Ensure all work meets jurisdiction-specific legal and technical requirements.
  • Project & Team Management:
  • Manage and guide a team of Sr. Associates/Associates on drafting and prosecution assignments.
  • Review drafts prepared by team members, providing detailed feedback to improve quality.
  • Oversee project timelines, workload distribution, and delivery commitments.
  • Client Engagement:
  • Collaborate with inventors, in-house counsel, and R&D teams to capture technical inventions.
  • Provide strategic advice on patentability, prosecution, and portfolio development.
  • Maintain strong client communication and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Quality & Process Development:
  • Establish and implement best practices for patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members for professional growth.
  • Continuously improve processes for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Engineering (preferred).
  • Law degree (desirable).
  • Patent agent qualification (must).
  • Experience: At least 5-8 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution with a law firm or IP services company.
  • Hands-on experience in drafting patent applications and preparing responses to office actions for US, EP, and India.
  • Prior experience in managing patent professionals or leading projects.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of patent laws and prosecution practices across US, EP, and India.
  • Excellent technical and legal drafting skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage, mentor, and review work of junior team members.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Client-facing experience with global stakeholders.
