Accessibility Specialist Role Summary

The accessibility specialist will be responsible for ensuring that digital products meet ADA, WCAG, and Section 508 compliance requirements. This includes auditing, testing, remediation, document accessibility, and compliance reporting.

This role involves working with cross-functional teams to ensure that websites, mobile apps, and digital documents are accessible to people with disabilities. The specialist will conduct automated and manual audits, perform real-user testing, and provide remediation support for PDFs and Office documents.

The accessibility specialist will also advise clients on emerging US/state accessibility laws, prepare VPATs/ACRs, and support quarterly monitoring and compliance programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong Knowledge of Accessibility Laws:

  • WCAG 2.1/2.2
  • ADA Title II/III
  • Section 504/508

Technical Skills:

  • JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack
  • Axe, WAVE, SiteImprove, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • HTML5, ARIA, CSS3, JavaScript (React/Angular a plus)

Documentation & Reporting Skills:

  • Audit findings
  • VPAT/ACR

Experience:

  • Federal, state, or higher education contracts preferred
Preferred Certifications

IAAP Certifications:

  • CPWA (Certified Professional in Web Accessibility)
  • WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist)
  • ADS (Accessible Document Specialist)
  • CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies)
