Senior Well Planning Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced well planning professional to lead the design, planning, and execution support of Coalbed Methane (CBM) wells.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Well Planning & Design:
    • Develop detailed well plans for CBM wells, including location selection support.
    • Prepare well designs aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
    • Design fit-for-purpose completions for CBM production.
  • Engineering & Cost Control:
    • Generate drilling and completion estimates and monitor actual vs budget.
    • Assist in developing scope of work and technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment.
    • Select equipment and materials in collaboration with procurement and service vendors.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide real-time technical support to the execution team during drilling and completions.
    • Conduct post-well reviews and implement lessons learned.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Work closely with subsurface teams for well targeting and zonal optimization.
    • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams.
  • Regulatory & Compliance:
    • Ensure all well designs and activities comply with relevant regulations.
    • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Team Management & Leadership:
    • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff.
    • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with 3+ years specifically in CBM operations.
  • Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.

  • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behaviour and gas production mechanisms.
  • Budgeting and estimate preparation.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
