Job Description

Lead Engineer for Quality and Product Development

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for managing quality assurance and product development activities.
  • Developing in-house testing facilities for research and development work.
  • Coordinating entire product development including requirement analysis, finalizing specifications, and testing activities.
  • Ensuring familiarity with metallurgical lab activities and knowledge of metallography.
  • Understanding microstructures of various steel types.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment like optical microscopes, UTM, indentation hardness testers.
  • Involved in selecting raw materials, metallurgical aspects, and process optimization for new products.
  • Certified internal quality management system auditor.
  • Experienced in monitoring and validation of heat treatment processes and furnaces.
  • Preparation of technical documents and reports for customers.
  • Taking decisions based on application and end-use of products.
  • Reporting to top management on performance of ongoing quality processes.
  • Handling customer complaints and product development.
  • Involvement in customer/external audits, visits, and closure of complaints and non-conformities.
  • Participating in R&D of new grades and products for various new customers and projects.
  • TPM & 5S responsibilities to maintain department documents and monthly presentations.
  • New grade development with customer satisfaction and need.
  • Customer handling and visit plans for Code of Conduct Audit and Process Audit.
  • Document preparation for new grades and customer approval.
  • Testing of rolled products like decarb, inclusion, microstructure, grain size, hardness, tensile, jominy, macro, impact etc.
  • SMS process control and heat release in SAP.
  • Manufacturing feasibility report preparation for customers.
  • Online process control for wire and bar mills.
  • Testing certificates and Pre-dispatch Inspection Reports for customers.
  • Process Control:
  • Responsible for checking and maintaining the quality and process improvement of cast billets, rolled and draw products of produced grades.
  • Communication of internal process deviations to vendor plants.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Academically qualified graduate metallurgical engineer with job experience in quality assurance and R&D departments.
  • Familiarity with handling metallurgical lab activities and knowledge of metallography.
  • Understanding microstructures of various steel types.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment like optical microscopes, UTM, indentation hardness testers.
  • Knowledge of international standards like ASTM, API, ISO, BS.
  • Certified internal quality management system auditor.
  • Good experience in monitoring and validation of heat treatment processes and furnaces.
