Big Data Administrator

This position involves managing and overseeing the daily operations of our big data platform, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently.

As a Big Data Administrator, you will be responsible for administering and monitoring various components of the platform, including Hadoop, Hive, HBase, and BigSQL.

  • Managing day-to-day operations, including administrative tasks and troubleshooting issues related to user queries and application jobs.
  • Supporting technical and application teams with requests for data copies across environments, data cleanup, query tuning, and other tasks.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to user queries, application jobs, and platform performance.
  • Maintaining and supporting the Big Data Platform, including CDP Private Cloud and IBM BigSQL, across multiple environments.
  • Installing new versions, patches, and upgrades of CDP Private Cloud and IBM BigSQL.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will also work on projects and initiatives related to data acquisition, processing, and utilization through the Big Data Platform.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science or a related field, with at least 35 years of experience in the Hadoop ecosystem, including HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, HBase, Spark, Scala, Yarn, Sqoop, Ranger, Knox, Kerberos, LDAP, SOLR, and Java and Linux/Unix.

Other required skills include:

  • 6 years of experience with Java and Linux/Unix
  • 4 years of experience with security scripting and automation
  • 2 years of experience in R, Python, Flume, Storm, Kafka
  • 2 years of experience with IBM BigSQL or similar MPP SQL engines
  • 2 years of experience with MYSQL
  • 1 year of experience with CICD

Experience with administration and performance tuning of Hadoop distributions, open-source, and commercial, as well as a good understanding of data lake concepts and big data capabilities are also essential.
