Job Title

The Sous Chef is a critical role in maintaining the efficiency and quality of food production.

  • Maintain set standards and monitor time management to optimize kitchen operations.
  • Provide ongoing training and ensure that established protocols are followed to maintain high standards.
  • Ensure safe, quality food products and complete guest satisfaction by adhering to strict food safety regulations.
  • Develop and comply with systems, procedures, rules, objectives and timescales to drive business growth.
  • Work within a technical/specialized area to improve service and product quality, adopting a helpful and accommodating manner.
  • Achieve set goals in a non-assertive and efficient manner, ensuring fair treatment of all crew members and a positive team atmosphere.
  • Conduct daily food tastings and correct discrepancies immediately to maintain exceptional quality.
  • Monitor and assist Section Heads to prepare electronic food requisitions, ensuring smooth and efficient service.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced culinary skills, leadership, and experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the profession, preferably in luxury hospitality establishments or upscale cruise lines.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with effective communication skills to work with senior management.
  • Ability to lead and make decisions, with good administrative skills and experience in coaching subordinates.
  • Cost and quality conscious, with flexibility to work scheduled hours and perform assigned duties under pressure.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on cruise ships or in 5-star hotels.
  • Fluency in additional languages.
