Operational Director

The primary objective of this role is to oversee the smooth functioning of Imports and Exports departments. This entails managing workflows, supervising staff, and ensuring timely execution of operational processes.

To achieve this goal, the ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of logistics procedures, financial management, and team leadership. A degree in a related field is preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating operations for Imports and Exports departments
  • Ensuring efficient delivery of cargo to customers
  • Compliance with all regulations of USA & Canada Customs/IATA/TSA and other governing bodies
  • Supervising shift managers and their teams
  • Reviewing KPIs regularly and ensuring team members meet expectations in quality, timelines, and communication

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, results-driven, and possess excellent people skills. They will be able to handle complex problems and multitask effectively.

Further Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Identify areas of inefficiency or data integrity issues
  • Develop improvement plans and propose automation, smarter flows, and better controls
  • Ensure seamless collaboration with service providers

Financial and Accounting Functions:

  • Set goals and objectives for the team
  • Use established indicators and tools appropriately
  • Ensure all accounting matters are finalized to maximize revenue

People Management Functions:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage all operations teams
  • Retain adequate staffing levels
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews
  • Monitor staff performance and work with HR on employee relations and training issues

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with all freight forwarding procedures and financials
  • Bachelors degree in any field (preferred: Commerce, International Trade, Logistics)
  • 5+ years of industry-related experience required with preference to freight forwarding
  • 2+ years of team management experience, including managing team leads or shift managers
  • Demonstrated Leadership and People Management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, data integrity, and customer service mindset
  • Highly motivated and results-driven
  • Outstanding people skills; customer-driven, business-savvy
  • Able to handle complex problems, knows how to multitask
