Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Senior Database Administrator to support our data loads and ensure optimal performance of critical database systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and improve JSON blob storage strategies to support scalability and optimize complex data structures spanning five core applications.
  • Analyze and resolve performance issues across PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and Snowflake environments by refactoring inefficient queries and recommending index strategies or schema redesigns.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams on pipeline orchestration, transformation, and delivery while ensuring high availability, backups, and disaster recovery across database platforms.
  • Manage database health, security, and compliance in a cross-functional, agile environment.
  • Leverage experience with postGIS and/or spatialite to enhance location-based features where applicable.

Technical Environment:

  • Databases: PostgreSQL (Amazon RDS), MSSQL, Snowflake
  • Data Engineering & Orchestration: Apache Spark, dbt, Airflow, SSIS
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (including Infrastructure as Code practices)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in database administration and performance tuning with strong SQL expertise and proven ability to refactor complex queries.
  • Proficiency with JSON data modeling and optimization.
  • Experience with Amazon RDS, particularly PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark for distributed data processing.
  • Familiarity with dbt for data modeling and transformations.
  • Familiarity with Apache Airflow.
  • Familiarity with MonetDB.
  • Exposure to AWS Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • (Nice-to-have) Experience working with spatial data formats (postGIS/spatialite).
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a cross-functional, agile environment.
