Climate Adaptation Specialist Role

About the Job:

This is a unique opportunity to lead climate adaptation initiatives and drive resilience in national frameworks. As a Climate Adaptation Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate adaptation priorities into national climate frameworks, leveraging your expertise in climate science and sustainable development.
  • Conduct comprehensive Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Analyze climate models and risk projections to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Develop and implement adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate the techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and identify relevant financing sources.
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting international mechanisms.
  • Foster inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.
  • Contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems, ensuring compliance with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.
  • Communicate technical information effectively through reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide expert policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
  • Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with international climate finance mechanisms, such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
  • Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
