Lead Database Administrator Role

We are seeking a seasoned and skilled database professional to assume the responsibility of designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance databases that meet our business needs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PostgreSQL database administration with at least 7 years of experience in production environments. They should possess an in-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, architecture, and tuning as well as proven experience with pgBackRest, Barman, pg_basebackup, and pg_dump.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Designing and implementing high-performance databases that meet business requirements.
  • Monitoring and optimizing database performance, tuning queries and indexes, and managing vacuuming and bloat.
  • Implementing pooling (PgBouncer) and maintaining robust monitoring and alerts.
  • Diagnosing and recovering from cluster corruption using advanced tools and procedures.
  • Planning and executing major upgrades, cross-version, and cross-platform migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to junior DBAs and conducting knowledge-sharing sessions.

The successful candidate will also have hands-on experience with AWS PostgreSQL services like RDS and Aurora, including parameter groups, snapshot management, performance insights, and multi-AZ failover. Experience with logical replication and foreign data wrappers is highly valued. Familiarity with cloud-managed PostgreSQL services, connection pooling, and proxy tools is desirable.

This role requires excellent troubleshooting skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a 24x7 production support environment.

Additionally, this role involves secondary responsibilities related to MySQL DBA duties such as managing users, roles, and permissions, setting up and troubleshooting MySQL replication, and performing backup and restore operations.
