Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Officer to join our team at the World Health Organization (WHO). The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting occupational health and well-being among staff members, as well as providing medical guidance and support.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Occupational Health Promotion: Develop and implement staff health promotion programs, including preventive measures for non-communicable diseases and organizing staff health awareness programs.
  2. Medical Examinations: Conduct medical examinations prior to selection of candidates and provide advice on medical fitness of the post, as well as conduct periodic medical examinations and medically classify staff members with regard to fitness for duty.
  3. Emergency Medical Care: Provide emergency medical care during office hours, confidential medical advice and counseling to staff members, and provide vaccination services, travel advice, and debriefing after missions.
  4. Medical Operations: Approve/disapprove, monitor, and control sick leave of staff members in the region, advise regarding cases of extended sick leave and/or frequent sick leave, and fitness for duty following recovery from serious illness or accident.
  5. Collaboration and Liaison: Work closely with the Director of Administration and Finance in situations relating to poor work performance/attendance of staff, review and coordinate medical evacuation, and advise regarding local working and living conditions and health.
Requirements
  • Education: Advanced University degree in Medicine or University degree with considerable experience in the medical field.
  • Experience: Minimum seven (7) years of relevant professional, medical experience, including considerable experience obtained in an international context.
  • Skills: Excellent knowledge of the medical field and best practices, customer relationship management, and thorough knowledge of medical service providers in the region.

Language Requirements

Excellent reading, writing, and speaking ability in English, with ability in other UN languages an asset.
