Madras Seva Sadan's special school is dedicated to providing education and vocational training for individuals with diverse abilities. Located in Chennai, the school offers a range of programs tailored to meet the unique needs of students with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

We are seeking a skilled Special Educator to join our rehabilitation team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing and implementing Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), providing instructional support tailored to students' unique needs, maintaining thorough documentation and reporting, managing student behavior effectively, and adapting curriculum to ensure accessibility and engagement for all learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and regularly review IEPs tailored to each student's needs, in collaboration with parents, therapists, and other staff.
  • Deliver customised instruction to students based on their individual needs and learning styles.
  • Modify the standard curriculum to meet the abilities of students with disabilities.
  • Implement and monitor behaviour intervention plans and use positive behaviour supports.
  • Work closely with general education teachers, therapists, counsellors, and parents to support students' academic and social development.
  • Assess and track student performance and progress regularly, adjusting goals accordingly.
  • Maintain a supportive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, assessments, and communications.
  • Participate in training and workshops to stay updated on special education practices, legal requirements, and instructional strategies.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or equivalent in Multiple Disabilities.
  • 3 to 7 years working with children and adults with multiple disabilities.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and assistive aids and devices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good organisational and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and specialised instructional strategies.
