Senior Auditor - Not-for-Profit Sector

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Auditor to join our assurance team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in not-for-profit (NFP) audits and a strong focus on serving charitable organizations, foundations, and other NFP entities in Canada.

About the Role:

The Senior Auditor will lead and execute audit engagements for NFP clients according to Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) and Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO). They will develop detailed audit plans and execute fieldwork efficiently and effectively. Additionally, they will supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; review their work and provide feedback.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Execute Audit Engagements: Lead and execute audit engagements for NFP clients according to CAS and ASNPO.
  • Develop Detailed Audit Plans: Develop detailed audit plans and execute fieldwork efficiently and effectively.
  • Supervise and Train Junior Staff: Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; review their work and provide feedback.
  • Identify and Communicate Issues: Identify, analyze, and communicate accounting and auditing issues to clients and partners.
  • Ensure Timely Completion: Ensure timely completion of audit engagements within budget.
  • Prepare Financial Statements: Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Liaise with Client Stakeholders: Liaise directly with client stakeholders, including finance teams and boards of directors.
  • Stay Current with Industry Developments: Maintain current knowledge of developments in accounting and assurance standards applicable to the NFP sector.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement of audit methodologies and internal processes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-6 years of experience in public practice, with a strong focus on NFP clients.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of ASNPO and CAS.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong project management and organizational abilities, proficient in Caseware, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
