System Administrator Job Description

This role involves working with the technical team to design, implement and maintain a Mainframe iSeries system. The ideal candidate will have experience in IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) Administration.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze problems and provide timely solutions to complex technical issues
  • Work closely with clients and internal teams to identify technical risks up front
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth project execution

Key Requirements:

  • 8-11 years of experience in IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) Administration
  • iSeries H/W and S/W config, install, migration, and maintenance
  • Experience with BRMS (Backup, Recovery, and Media Services) or other backup tools
  • OS/400 Security Management
  • Problem and Change Management process and tool knowledge
  • Performance and Capacity Management (PM400 and Perf Navigator)
  • iSeries Job Schedulers - Robot, IBM Advanced Job Scheduler (IJS), and Native Job Scheduler (WRKJOBSCDE)
  • Power system, VIOS, and HMC management
  • Expertise in High Availability
  • PCI and SOX Compliance knowledge
  • IBM supported network architecture and configurations - TCP/IP, SNI, SNA

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Knowledge on iSeries environment with VIOS/External storage and Virtual Tape Library like Protec Tier/DSI VTL/EMC Data domain
  • Knowledge of Automation/Monitoring tool
  • Working knowledge on Power6/Power7/Power8/Power9
