Key Responsibilities
  • Operating the Heart-Lung Machine: Perfusionists are responsible for setting up and operating the heart-lung machine, monitoring the patient's vital signs, and administering medications as necessary to maintain optimal circulation and oxygenation.
  • Collaborating with the Surgical Team: Perfusionists work closely with the cardiac surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other members of the surgical team to ensure seamless communication and coordination during the surgical procedure. They must be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and respond promptly to any changes in the patient's condition.
  • Monitoring and Maintaining Equipment: Perfusionists are responsible for inspecting and maintaining the heart-lung machine and other perfusion equipment to ensure their proper functioning. They must also be prepared to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during the surgery.
  • Ensuring Patient Safety: Patient safety is of utmost importance in cardiac surgeries, and Perfusionists play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of the patient throughout the procedure. They must be vigilant in monitoring the patient's condition and responding to any signs of distress or complications.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Perfusion or Related Field: A Bachelor's degree in Perfusion or a related field is typically required for this position. Certification from a reputable organization such as the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) is also highly desirable.

Minimum of 3 Years of Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Perfusionist in a hospital setting is typically required for this position. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment are essential skills for success in this role.
