Backend Development Lead

We are seeking a seasoned Backend Development Lead to spearhead the development of our existing backend system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of our backend project and drive it forward with minimal ramp-up time.
  • Lead design and development efforts for new features, systems integrations, and refactoring projects.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including frontend, DevOps, QA, and product.
  • Manage the technical backlog, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Set direction for architecture and backend design with a clear vision.

Team Mentorship & Code Quality

  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers, providing code reviews, feedback, and technical leadership.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, design principles, and software engineering best practices.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, clean code, and ownership.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and provide growth opportunities to the team.

Backend Development & Architecture

  • Design and develop scalable, maintainable backend solutions using Node.js, Express.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
  • Architect and work with monolithic and microservices architectures.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization solutions.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and observability.

Process & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the product team to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
  • Drive sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives with agile methodologies.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in backend development with strong experience in Node.js, Express, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Proficient in database design and management.
  • Proven experience with monolithic to microservices transition and API design.
  • Strong understanding of clean code principles, SOLID, DRY, and test-driven development.
  • Experience with architectural patterns: Event-driven architecture and service-oriented design.
  • Proficiency with Git, CI/CD tools, Docker, and deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments and infrastructure as code is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading and growing engineering teams.
  • Experience with performance tuning and observability.
  • Exposure to serverless architectures and container orchestration.
  • Background in startup environments or greenfield projects is a plus.
