Release Engineer Role Summary

The role is responsible for managing the release lifecycle of software on deployed devices. The candidate will be part of a team that ensures timely and high-quality releases across a large number of devices.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling, coordination, and management of releases on multiple deployed devices.
  • Collaboration with Development, Field Triage, and QA teams.
  • Implementation of new tools, plugins, etc., to improve the software release engineering process.
  • Risk management and resolution of issues affecting release scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Ensuring stable/release branch builds are in good health daily, providing test guidance to QA teams, and ensuring targets are on track.
  • Reviewing machine metrics for key aspects of video, broadband, and voice-related functionalities.
  • Prioritizing customer Call In Rate, Truck Roll, and performance-related issues in the next release.
  • Integrating targets into release branches prior to official release builds.
  • Conducting post-deployment feature reviews to ensure features are performing well in the field.
  • Maintaining warehouse and factory images up-to-date with recent releases.
  • Communicating release notes and plans to external stakeholders.
  • Release monitoring through data analysis tools (Tableau, Haystack, etc.) and working with the Tools team for tool enhancements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong technical background in software engineering, including best practices and understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration & Delivery.
  • 7+ years of experience in Engineering and Release Management.
  • Good experience in Release Management in an Agile environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in Build/Release technology, including languages C, C++, and Linux, scripting languages Python and Shell script, JiRA plugins and Confluence, SCM Tools Git, Gerrit, SVN, Build tools Jenkins, Reporting Tools Tableau and Splunk, Knowledge with Linux and Embedded software.
  • BE/BTech in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong debugging skills.
  • Optional: Experience with RDK.
