Senior Data Engineer Job Description

Job Summary:

The Senior Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain large-scale data systems to support business growth. This role requires a strong understanding of data modeling, SQL, ETL, and data warehousing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement data lakes using Azure Data Factory, Spark, and Azure Databricks.
  • Design ETL processes to ingest data into the data warehouse and data lake.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Apply expertise in large dataset design, creation, management, and utilization for business value.
  • Establish service level agreements (SLAs) for owned areas.
  • Possess experience in data modeling, SQL, ETL, data warehousing, and data lakes.
  • Proficient in writing SQL and Python scripts.
  • Skilled in building dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in transforming data using Azure Data Factory.
  • Familiarity with Spark and Azure Databricks.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and data presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PySpark or JavaScript.
  • Understanding of Azure Databricks and MPP databases.
  • Experience in data lake development.
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB or MongoDB.
  • Experience working on Microsoft Power BI dashboards.
  • Experience following Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems like Git.
