Key responsibilities of this position include well planning and design, engineering and cost control, operational support, cross-functional coordination, regulatory compliance, and team management. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in upstream oil & gas operations, particularly in coalbed methane (CBM) environments.

Well Planning & Design
  • Lead the planning process for CBM wells, considering factors such as location selection, well trajectory, casing, cementing, and mud programs.
  • Prepare detailed designs aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
  • Develop risk registers, contingency plans, and basis of design.
Engineering & Cost Control
  • Generate drilling and completion authorization for expenditure (AFE) and monitor actual versus budget performance.
  • Collaborate with procurement and service vendors to select equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate new technologies and apply them to CBM-relevant projects.
Operational Support
  • Provide real-time technical support to execution teams during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions.
  • Conduct post-well reviews to implement lessons learned.
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Work closely with subsurface teams to optimize well targeting and zonal placement.
  • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to ensure well delivery schedules align.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all well designs and activities comply with relevant regulations and laws.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
Team Management & Leadership
  • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff.
  • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers for well engineering deliverables.

In order to be successful in this role, candidates must have a strong background in petroleum engineering or mechanical engineering, along with relevant experience in upstream oil & gas operations. A minimum of 10 years' experience is preferred, with at least 3 years specifically in CBM operations.

Candidates should possess excellent project management and communication skills, as well as proficiency in well design software. Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms is also essential.
