About This Role:

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and administration of DMSII databases on Unisys mainframes. You will work with various teams to ensure seamless data access and optimal system performance.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Implement database backup procedures, journaling, and roll-forward recovery
  • Monitor database performance and space utilization to prevent downtime
  • Manage sets, subsets, and indexes to optimize data access efficiency
  • Support schema changes and perform database reorganizations as needed
  • Collaborate with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance issues
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure compliance with backup policies
  • Develop and maintain security protocols, audit trails, and user access controls
  • Document DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures

Essential Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration
  • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools
  • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery
  • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues
  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration
  • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to modernization projects (migrating from DMSII to RDBMS/cloud)
  • Knowledge of SQL/relational databases for cross-skill flexibility
  • Experience in automation scripts for monitoring or DBA tasks
