Director of Sports: A Leadership Role

The Director of Sports is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of sports programs, physical education, and wellness initiatives across the institution.

This role requires a strategic thinker who can develop and implement the overall vision, strategy, and policies for the sports department. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale sports events and teams, as well as strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement Overall Vision: Create a comprehensive plan to drive the growth and success of the sports department.
  • Oversee Sports Programs: Manage sports programs, inter-collegiate tournaments, training camps, and physical education curriculum to ensure alignment with the institution's goals.
  • Manage Facilities and Resources: Ensure proper maintenance and utilization of sports facilities, gymnasiums, and grounds.
  • Roster Talent and Mentor Athletes: Identify, recruit, and mentor talented athletes to represent the institution at various levels.
  • Collaborate with Coaches and Faculty: Work closely with coaches, trainers, and faculty to promote a culture of fitness and sportsmanship.
  • Organize Events and Workshops: Plan and execute workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on health, fitness, and sports.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Physical Education or Related Field: Possess a doctoral degree in physical education, sports science, or a related field.
  • 15+ Years of Experience: Have a minimum of 15 years of experience in sports administration, coaching, or sports management.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrate a proven track record of managing large-scale sports events and teams.
  • Strong Leadership and Communication Skills: Possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Modern Training Methods: Be familiar with modern training methods, sports technology, and performance analytics.
  • Representation Experience: Have a record of representing the university/college at inter-university / inter-collegiate competitions or the State and/or National championships.
