Job Title: Senior Physical Design Engineer

The role of Senior Physical Design Engineer is to oversee the entire physical design process, from floor planning to timing closure.

  • Top-level floor planning involves creating a preliminary layout of the chip, taking into account power consumption and thermal characteristics. This includes PG Planning, partitioning, placement, scan-chain-reordering, clock tree synthesis, timing optimization, SI aware routing, timing analysis/closure, ECO tasks (timing and functional ECOs), SI closure, design rule checks (DRC), and Logical vs. Schematic (LVS) checks, Antenna checks.
  • Working on 65nm or lower node designs requires expertise in advanced low power techniques such as Voltage Islands, Power Gating, and substrate-bias.
  • As a technical lead, you will provide guidance and mentoring to Physical Design Engineers, ensuring that they have the necessary skills to meet project requirements.
  • You will work closely with front-end ASIC teams to resolve issues related to the physical design process.
  • Low Power Design techniques such as Voltage Islands, Power Gating, Substrate-bias are crucial for reducing power consumption.
  • Timing closure on DDR2/DDR3/PCIE interfaces requires careful planning and execution.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong background in ASIC Physical Design, including Floor planning, P&R, extraction, IR Drop Analysis, Timing and Signal Integrity closure, is necessary for success in this role.
  • Extensive experience with Cadence or Synopsys or Magma physical Design Tools is also required.
  • Scripting languages such as PERL, TCL are useful for automating tasks and improving productivity.
  • A strong Physical Verification skill set is necessary for ensuring that the design meets all relevant specifications.
  • Static Timing Analysis in Primetime or Primetime-SI is used to identify potential timing issues before manufacturing.
  • Good written and oral communication skills are essential for clearly documenting plans and communicating with team members.
  • Ability to interface with different teams and prioritize work based on project needs is critical for success in this role.
