  • Purpose of Role

    A Composite Manufacturing Tool Designer is a professional responsible for designing and creating specialized tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in composite manufacturing processes. These tools are essential for ensuring the accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency of manufacturing operations.

  • Responsibilities
    1. Develop detailed designs for layup tools, jigs, fixtures, and tooling in composite manufacturing.
    2. Analyze manufacturing processes to determine jig and fixture requirements.
    3. Analyze composite manufacturing processes for layup tool and mold requirements.
    4. Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and production teams to understand process specifics.
    5. Evaluate existing tools for efficiency and cost-effectiveness improvements.
    6. Work closely with cross-functional teams addressing design challenges and ensuring compatibility.
    7. Select appropriate materials based on factors like durability, weight, and cost.
    8. Estimate manufacturing costs considering materials, processes, and labor.
    9. Create prototypes to validate design concepts before full-scale production.
    10. Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials for manufacturing.
    11. Implement measures to ensure jigs and fixtures meet design specifications and standards. Collaborate with quality assurance teams to address issues related to tooling.
    12. Identify opportunities for process, material, and manufacturing technique improvements.
    13. Provide training to production personnel on the proper use and maintenance of tools.
    14. Ensure designed tools comply with safety standards and regulations.
    15. Troubleshoot and solve issues related to jig and fixture performance.
    16. Stay updated on manufacturing and design advancements for innovative tool development.

Required Skills:
Proficient in designing and creating specialized tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures. Strong knowledge of GD&T. Strong Knowledge of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. Ability to innovate in layup tool development, design principles, and upgrades. Willingness to take on non-traditional tasks, roles, responsibilities, and challenges needed to accomplish company goals and objectives.
