At EssentiallySports, we are seeking a highly skilled sports news editor to join our dynamic editorial team.

We are committed to delivering high-quality content to our millions of readers and believe that editors play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and legitimacy of our articles.

The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying statistical data and facts, proofreading, and enhancing the quality of content before it goes live on our website.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit and publish 20-25 articles daily, meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Proofread articles meticulously to ensure no avoidable errors remain, checking for plagiarism and grammatical accuracy.
  • Conduct thorough research to verify the veracity of facts and identify any incorrect claims or assertions.
  • Publish articles in a timely fashion for priority news-based articles, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Mentor and guide a set of writers to refine their quality, output, and overall performance.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations of writers in the sport division, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Undertake other key duties as instructed by the Editorial Team Lead.

  • You possess a strong grasp of the fundamentals of the English language and have an understanding of American culture.
  • You excel at fact-checking and enhancing the editorial quality of content, with a keen eye for detail.
  • You take ownership of publishing articles on time, demonstrating flexibility for event-coverage days.
  • You exhibit leadership qualities, with a knack for people management and a good judge of character.
  • You have a keen eye for enticing titles and subheadings, with basic SEO knowledge.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6-12 months of experience in proofreading and/or content editing.
  • Prior experience of leading a team of writers would be an additional plus.
