Technical Operations Manager Job Description

The ideal candidate will oversee the day-to-day technical activities, ensuring the vessel's seaworthiness.

  • Oversee daily technical operations and ensure vessel safety.
  • Monitor vessel reports promptly. Analyze performance/defects and implement timely closures including observations raised during internal/external audits and inspections.
  • Verify PMS compliance and authenticity. Propose improvements to databases and systems.
  • Maintain validity of all certifications and documentation. Liaise with classification societies and flag authorities as needed.
  • Prepare vessels for oil major vetting/Rightship inspections and ensure readiness.
  • Monitor speed/consumption performance, implement efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Company IMS, international regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS), and flag requirements.
  • Coordinate procurement of spares and critical equipment with most cost-effective options.
  • Plan and supervise dry-docking, repairs, technical projects (upgrades/retrofits and major maintenance). Prepare specifications, budgets, and timelines. Ensure quality control during repairs and maintain cost control.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to onboard crew, including new equipment.
  • Conduct periodic physical inspections of vessels for condition assessment.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions. Propose improvements in procedures and manuals.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of TMSA and Rightship requirements and implementation.
  • Experience working on cranes and grabs is preferred.
  • Promote a strong safety culture on board and in technical operations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental protection measures and fuel efficiency initiatives.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, or machinery failures, and implement corrective actions.
