Production Merchandiser Job Description

The role of the Production Merchandiser involves overseeing the coordination of garment production, quality control, and delivery to ensure operational excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing various aspects of product development, planning and scheduling, vendor management, costing and budgeting, quality control, inventory management, production coordination, and documentation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Source and select appropriate fabrics, trims, and accessories for product development.
  • Coordinate with production teams to develop samples including fabric selection, construction, fit, and quality.
  • Review and approve samples to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.
Planning and Scheduling:
  • Develop yearly and monthly production plans with timelines based on order requirements, capacity, and lead times.
  • Plan and allocate resources, including materials and labor, to meet production needs.
  • Ensure materials and resources are available for production and monitor production progress to address any issues or delays.
Vendor Management:
  • Identify and select reliable suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to ensure consistent quality and timely delivery.
Costing and Budgeting:
  • Prepare cost estimates for products, including materials, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Manage budgets and track expenses to ensure production costs stay within budget.
Quality Control:
  • Establish quality standards and guidelines for production.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks at various stages of production.
Inventory Management:
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Ensure timely replenishment of materials to avoid production delays.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • A degree in textile engineering, fashion merchandising, or a related field is preferred.
  • More than 5 years of experience in a similar role is required.
Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of textile and garment manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in using production management software and tools.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Analytical Skills:
  • Ability to analyze production data and make informed decisions.
