Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Privacy and Data Protection professional to join our organization. This role will support the company's global operations by providing strategic legal guidance on data protection matters, including AI governance with an emphasis on U.S. laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice on a wide range of data protection issues, focusing on student data privacy in accordance with relevant U.S. federal and state laws, international laws, compliance obligations, AI, and data privacy in contracts.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to develop and implement a robust global data protection and privacy program that aligns with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing development of effective training programs to enhance teams' understanding of data protection legal and compliance obligations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with data protection and privacy policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the organization.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making through expert advice and counsel on complex data protection and privacy issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of global data protection and privacy laws, particularly U.S. state and federal student data privacy laws and best practices.
  • Proven track record of advising on complex data protection and privacy matters, especially related to FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, and similar regulations.
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across departments to drive solutions and foster a positive work environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to tackle intricate data protection and privacy challenges.
  • Strong research skills to stay up-to-date with evolving regulations and industry developments.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills to articulate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
