Lead Aviation Engineer

The WSP Aviation team is seeking a seasoned Airfield Engineering professional to lead our Indian office as the Principal Engineer.

This critical position will be responsible for delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction. The successful candidate will work with clients in the UK and overseas, ensuring timely delivery and meeting client expectations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality design efforts for airfield civil engineering projects
  • Oversee project delivery while guiding junior team members and managing multiple technical engineering projects
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications for airfield engineering projects
  • Participate in technical design reviews and contribute to quality management requirements
  • Communicate effectively with team members, industry partners, and clients to ensure design coherence
  • Identify and manage design risks, issues, and Request for Information (RFIs)
  • Support Project Managers by monitoring project progress and developing project controls
  • Implement technical quality requirements and meet client deadlines
  • Serve as a role model, line manager, and mentor for other staff
  • Champion excellent health and safety in design practices
Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate should have sound technical abilities and a strong track record in Civil Engineering projects at airports. A degree in Civil Engineering and 10 years of experience in similar roles are essential.

  • 10+ years of civil infrastructure design experience at airports
  • Civil engineering experience on large, complex airport projects
  • Experience managing engineering professionals in aviation projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-leadership, attention to detail, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • International airfield design standards knowledge (ICAO, FAA)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AviPlan, SkySafe, and FAARFIELD design software
