About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Director to lead our Data and Pricing Platform team at Opendoor. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and executing our 18-month analytics, data, and machine learning (ML) platform strategy, aligned with our organization's objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop, define, and execute the overall 18-month analytics, data, and ML platform strategy, ensuring alignment with our organization's objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction and guidance to a cross-functional team of data engineers, software engineers, and ML engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership to identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making and enhanced operational efficiency, working closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, finance, and operations.
Data Engineering and Strategy
  • Data Pipeline Design: Lead the design and implementation of robust data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehousing solutions to ensure data accuracy and availability.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge data technologies to improve data processing, storage, and accessibility, ensuring compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry best practices.
  • Business Intelligence Tools: Manage the development of user-friendly, self-service business intelligence tools that empower stakeholders across the organization to access and interpret data.
Software and ML Engineering
  • Federated Data Platform: Lead the design and implementation of a company-wide federated data platform that enables flexible, interoperable, and efficient business data flows.
  • ML Platform Development: Lead the design and implementation of an ML platform that improves the productivity and reliability of our core pricing models, driving billions of dollars of revenue every year.
Team Development and Collaboration
  • Team Recruitment and Management: Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing, entrepreneurial team of data, software, and ML engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Communication and Presentation: Present complex technical concepts and analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the organization.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, ML Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership role overseeing data engineering, software engineering, and/or ML engineering.
  • Data Lifecycle Experience: End-to-end experience in the data lifecycle, from data ingestion to feature engineering to ML model development, productionization, and operation.
  • Cloud-Based Data Platforms: Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Databricks) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is preferred.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate and back-translate between business and technology.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strategic thinker with the ability to align data initiatives with business goals, driving data-driven cultural transformation within an organization.
