Position Overview

To guarantee the maintenance and operation of assigned vessels in accordance with regulatory bodies, industry standards, safety protocols, and owner requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of accountability, overseeing all onboard activities and providing technical guidance to vessel Masters and crew members.
  • Prioritize safety and environmental compliance with regard to statutory regulations, company policies, safety management systems, industry best practices, and owner requirements.
  • Closely monitor and support vessel operations, ensuring that they adhere to regulatory bodies, company policies, safety management systems, industry best practices, and owner requirements while maintaining operational efficiency and economic expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to Wallem's SMS, flag and class rules, state requirements, TMSA, and other vetting agencies' conformance.
  • Collaborate with Operations superintendent for a unified objective to operate vessels in accordance with the SMS and Shipman Agreement.
  • Responsible for budgetary expenditures on assigned vessels, providing timely reports and analysis to Fleet Manager(s) and Owner(s).
  • Maintain vessels within KPIs set by Wallem's SMS while prioritizing safety and pollution prevention. Technical Superintendent works closely with other departments to meet commercial objectives and ensure vessel seaworthiness.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with clients/owners to maintain the highest level of customer service and satisfaction while protecting the organization's brand and employees from risk.
  • Provide direction, coaching, guidance, mentoring, and evaluation of senior sea staff to ensure safe and successful operations while promoting individual career progression and development.
  • Monitor and maintain a thorough knowledge of current Technical Superintendents Work Instructions, which may be subject to review and revision from time to time. Complete all tasks detailed in these instructions for assigned vessels.
  • Monitor and optimize vessel performance and seafarer resources. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure vessels and seafarers have adequate resources to perform their duties effectively.
  • Review, write, and provide feedback on seafarer development areas, work-performance during specific contracts, and set clear goals and targets.
  • Participate in Shore base Emergency Response teams as required.
  • Complete any additional tasks reasonably requested by the Fleet Manager.
