Import Ocean Freight Manager

This position involves overseeing the import ocean freight operations, ensuring timely cargo clearance and delivery.

  • Develop pricing strategies and negotiate rates with carriers to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage a team of import operations specialists, allocating resources and setting performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Generate reports on import operations, cost efficiency, and process improvements for senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage the import ocean freight operations for FCL, LCL, and consolidation.
  2. Develop pricing strategies, negotiate rates with carriers, and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  3. Oversee pre-alerts, booking coordination, documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling.
  4. Coordinate with internal departments (sales, documentation, customer service, and finance) to ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery.
  5. Ensure compliance with all local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements.
  6. Develop and implement SOPs to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time for import processes.
  7. Monitor departmental P&L, ensure cost control, and prepare regular budgets.
  8. Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base.
  9. Maintain high standards of customer service, promptly resolving issues and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS.
  • Excellent leadership and people management abilities.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
