About the Role

As a seasoned database administrator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless performance of our databases. Your responsibilities will include analyzing database issues and monitoring database performance to guarantee optimal functionality.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will work closely with team members to manage production SQL-based and NoSQL databases, ensuring smooth collaboration and efficient database management.
  • Manage high-transaction-rate databases, including configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup of traditional SQL databases (MySQL/Percona) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra/MongoDB).
  • Install, configure, and upgrade nodes in high-availability customer production clusters, guaranteeing uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Oversee an international 24x7, multi-site production infrastructure powering Proofpoint services, encompassing deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security.
  • Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and reporting in the production environment, fostering data-driven decision-making.
  • Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure, driving innovation and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure operations standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments, and ensure successful product rollouts.
  • Develop processes, tools, and documentation in support of production operations, streamlining workflows and enhancing productivity.

Your Skills and Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in designing, maintaining, and administering NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB)
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, maintaining, and administering traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona)
  • Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a proven track record of effectively evangelizing technical best practices
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems, ensuring proactive issue resolution
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience required
