Job Opportunity: Data Platform Engineering Leadership

We are seeking a seasoned professional to spearhead the development and operation of our data pipelines. This role is perfect for an experienced leader with 9+ years of background in Data Engineering, Backend Engineering, and DevOps.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in building and operating production-grade data pipelines, as well as technical leadership and direction. They will be responsible for setting technical direction, running design reviews and code reviews, coaching engineers, and coordinating work across time zones.

  • Technical Leadership & Delivery: Leading a small squad or workstream, scoping milestones, managing dependencies and risks, unblocking engineers, communicating status to stakeholders, and landing outcomes on time.
  • Architecture & Direction: Defining target states and data contracts, making build/buy calls, authorizing RFCs, driving cost/performance guardrails and reliability patterns.
  • Data Pipelines: Designing, building, and operating reliable batch and change-driven pipelines, scheduling/orchestrating jobs, handling schema evolution and failures gracefully.
  • Transformations & Modeling: Implementing clean, tested merge/transformation pipelines, producing models that are easy to consume for products and analytics, tuning SQL for performance.
  • APIs & Integration: Building or collaborating on APIs for data access/updates, designing request/response contracts, handling auth (OAuth2/OIDC/JWT), idempotency, validation, and auditing.
  • Infrastructure & DevOps: Provisioning/managing cloud resources with Terraform, automating build/test/deploy with CI/CD, writing solid shell scripts for glue/ops tasks.
  • Observability & Reliability: Instrumenting logs/metrics/traces, defining SLOs and on-call runbooks, leading incident reviews and driving root-cause prevention.
  • Security & Compliance: Applying least-privilege access, secrets management, and encryption in transit/at rest, partnering on compliance requirements.
  • Quality & Standards: Championing unit/integration/data-quality tests (including SQL), enforcing code health via reviews, linters, and CI checks.

Required Skills & Qualifications: A proven track record of leadership, strong SQL fundamentals, Python experience for data work and services, Terraform and IaC knowledge, cloud experience (Azure preferred), data integration skills, workflow orchestration experience, API and authentication expertise, observability knowledge, testing mindset, and effective communication skills.
