Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our database operations team, you will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing our database environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot database instances to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform root-cause analysis in response to database environment events.
  • Identify opportunities for improved system performance and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize query performance and resolve database-related issues.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated environment installation and setup processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for specific technical topics and team operations.
  • Architect high availability and backup/restore processes for our databases.
  • Review and execute data manipulation scripts created by internal and external team members.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external networks to support team objectives.
  • Contribute to day-to-day database operations and participate in production support on-call rotation.
  • Complete infrastructure planning, provisioning, and maintenance tasks to ensure required resources are available for application functionality.
  • Perform functionality reviews for services and technology that both internal and external teams want to use in the database environment.
  • Create project solutions that align with stated objectives and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator working with SQL Server 2017 or higher.
  • 3+ years of experience configuring and maintaining AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience in IT fields.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts and infrastructure management.
  • Expertise in common database administration tasks such as backup & restore, integrity checks, disaster recovery, and security.
  • Prior experience supporting database and application development teams.
  • Thorough knowledge of reading and writing complex SQL scripts.
  • General knowledge of reading and writing Powershell or other scripting technologies.
  • The ability to solve complex problems independently using analysis and research.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide technical input internally and externally.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Experience working in a compliance-regulated environment.
  • General knowledge of at least one other database technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in technology, engineering, or related field.
  • General knowledge of PostgreSQL.
  • AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL experience.
  • IAC tools, such as Terraform or AWS Cloudformation.
