IBM MQ z/OS System Programmer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced system programmer to administer and support IBM MQ Series on the z/OS platform. The ideal candidate will ensure a secure, reliable, and high-performing messaging infrastructure that supports enterprise applications.

This role demands deep technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to maintain mission-critical systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining IBM MQ Series on z/OS. This includes managing MQ objects such as queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations.

The candidate will also be required to monitor MQ performance and availability, applying tuning techniques to optimize throughput and reduce latency.

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to plan and execute upgrades of MQ Series components on z/OS, conduct compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning.

The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with developers, infrastructure teams, and support staff to troubleshoot and resolve MQ-related issues.

  • MQ Administration: Install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ Series on z/OS.
  • Upgrade Support: Plan and execute upgrades of MQ Series components on z/OS.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and manage MQ security protocols.
  • System Programming & Integration: Support integration of MQ with z/OS subsystems.
  • Disaster Recovery & High Availability: Design and implement MQ Queue Sharing Groups and RESLEVEL configurations.
  • Collaboration & Support: Partner with developers and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot and resolve MQ-related issues.
