Process Design Engineer

This high-impact role involves developing and optimizing flow chemistry and batch processes for scale-up and commercial manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in flow chemistry and batch process design, strong knowledge of process design tools and calculations, and experience in preparing and interpreting Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize flow chemistry and batch processes for scale-up and commercial manufacturing.
  • Perform process design calculations (heat & mass balance, reaction kinetics, equipment sizing, pressure drop, mixing, and scale-up parameters).
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as BFDs, PFDs, and P&IDs.
  • Support process safety assessments (HAZOP, risk analysis, safety studies).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust process design.
  • Evaluate new technologies and propose innovative solutions for continuous manufacturing & flow chemistry applications.
  • Provide process engineering support during pilot plant and commercial scale-up.
  • Work with procurement & vendors for equipment selection and specification preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, regulatory guidelines, and EHS standards in process design.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5–7 years of proven experience in process design engineering within the pharmaceutical/chemical industry.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of process safety (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, or equivalent) preferred.
