Design Transformer Expert Lead

Engineering Leadership Opportunity

• As a seasoned engineering professional, you will lead a team of design engineers in the management of mechanical and/or electrical design for various types of transformers.

The primary focus will be on ensuring designs meet customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality requirements. This role involves extensive experience in pad-mounted, medium, and Power transformer design, including enclosure design, cable entry and termination, compartment layouts, cooling system integration, and security features.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution from concept to delivery. Your responsibilities will include mentoring engineers, conducting design calculations, VLN, Andreson, stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other relevant simulations to validate designs and predict performance.

Additionally, you will collaborate with manufacturing and testing teams during prototype development, testing, and validation phases, providing design input and troubleshooting support. You will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining comprehensive design documentation, including BOMs, technical specifications, test procedures, and design reports.

Your expertise in defining and monitoring engineering metrics (KPIs) for design quality, throughput, and continuous improvement is essential. Reporting regularly to senior management on project status, risks, team development, and cost savings is also a key responsibility.

Serving as an engineering liaison with key customers, supporting technical presentations, addressing design queries, and managing expectations throughout project life cycles is required. Participating in customer audits, design reviews, and acceptance testing is also necessary.

The ideal candidate should have 15 to 20 years of progressive experience in heavy electrical products such as Transformers/Switchgears. Demonstrable experience in handling the engineering function of pad-mounted transformers is essential. Strong understanding of transformer theory, principles of operation, and construction is also necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Mastery of transformer design principles, including enclosure design, cable entry and termination, compartment layouts, cooling system integration, and security features.
• Extensive experience in pad-mounted, medium, and Power transformer design, including Andreson, stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other relevant simulations.
• Ability to mentor and lead a team of design engineers in the management of mechanical and/or electrical design for various types of transformers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in defining and monitoring engineering metrics (KPIs) for design quality, throughput, and continuous improvement.
