We are seeking a highly skilled Visual Communications Specialist to join our team. As a remote-first organization, we value flexibility and collaboration.

DMS works with scientists, universities, organizations, societies, and publishers across the globe, converting complex scientific ideas into engaging content and visuals tailored to different audiences through our content writing and design services.

As a Visual Communications Specialist, you will combine scientific expertise with creative design skills to produce accurate and visually appealing materials. Your work will include scientific illustrations, graphical abstracts, journal cover images, infographics, posters, brochures, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling graphical abstracts that concisely represent the essence of a scientific study.
  • Read and comprehend scientific manuscripts to extract key visual elements and concepts.
  • Create storyboards that outline the visual narrative, ensuring alignment with the scientific content and client objectives.
  • Generate rough sketches to illustrate initial visual concepts, collaborating closely with researchers, writers, and clients to refine and finalize the visual representation.
  • Evaluate peers' and freelancers' outputs to ensure they meet client expectations and are delivery-ready.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Ph.D. degree in STEM fields, particularly Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in scientific graphic designing, communicating science and complex research into visually engaging output.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Proficiency in creating 3D designs in Blender is an asset.
  • Experience in scientific graphic designing, medical illustrations, journal cover designs, and graphical abstracts.
  • Understanding of the scientific publishing and science communication landscape.
