Medical Transcriptionist Job Description

A medical transcriptionist is responsible for converting audio or video recordings of healthcare professionals into written reports. These reports are then used by healthcare providers to make informed decisions about patient care.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Listening and transcribing dictations from healthcare providers, including medical histories, physical examination findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
  • Editing and reviewing transcriptions for accuracy, grammar, and spelling.
  • Translating medical abbreviations and jargon into commonly understood terms.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to legal and ethical standards in the handling of patient information.
  • Utilizing reference materials and technology to assist in the transcription process.
  • Communicating with healthcare providers to clarify dictation and obtain additional information when needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful as a medical transcriptionist, you will need to have excellent listening and typing skills, as well as strong attention to detail and accuracy. You should also have a good understanding of medical terminology and be able to learn quickly.
