Job Description:

As an Urban Climate Finance Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing financial strategies to mobilize funding for climate-resilient urban infrastructure projects. You will identify and assess potential funding sources, conduct financial assessments, and assist in the formulation of policies and regulations related to climate finance at the urban level.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic plans for urban climate finance, aligning them with broader city development goals and climate action plans
  • Identify and assess potential funding sources, including public, private, and blended finance mechanisms
  • Conduct financial assessments to identify funding gaps, investment opportunities, risk management measures, and cost-effective climate adaptation measures in urban areas
  • Assist in the formulation of policies and regulations related to climate finance at the urban level, ensuring alignment with national and international frameworks
  • Prepare funding proposals for urban climate projects, including feasibility studies, budgeting, risk assessments, and financial modeling
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, NGOs, and community groups, to mobilize support and resources for urban climate initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of urban climate finance projects, track financial disbursements, and ensure compliance with funding requirements and reporting obligations

Requirements:

  • Post-graduate degree in finance, economics, environmental management, urban planning, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field
  • At least 7-10 years of sectoral experience in climate finance with a focus on urban development
  • Demonstrated experience of working with national and sub-national governments
  • Strong understanding of climate finance frameworks and mechanisms, including public finance instruments, green bonds, climate funds, and other innovative financing approaches
