Pharmacy Operations Manager

This key role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth functioning of hospital pharmacy operations by managing procurement, inventory, distribution, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise day-to-day pharmacy operations, including dispensing, billing, and stock management.
  • Monitor drug availability, ensure no stockouts, and maintain adequate levels of essential medicines.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions of medicines as per statutory norms.
  • Oversee inward & outward movement of drugs, surgical items, and consumables.

Procurement & Inventory Control

  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely procurement of medicines and consumables.
  • Implement cost control measures without compromising on quality.
  • Monitor slow-moving, near-expiry, and non-moving stocks and take corrective action.
  • Ensure periodic physical verification of stock and reconciliation.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with relevant laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and high-value drugs.
  • Ensure prescription validation, rational drug use, and patient safety protocols are followed.

Team Management

  • Supervise pharmacists and support staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide training, guidance, and continuous learning opportunities to pharmacy staff.
  • Schedule duties and manage manpower requirements effectively.

Financial & Reporting

  • Assist in preparing pharmacy budgets and monitoring expenditure.
  • Analyze sales and consumption trends, and prepare management information reports (MIS) for senior management.
  • Support audits (internal, external, statutory) and ensure timely closure of any issues raised.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm), Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm), or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D)
  • Experience: 5–8 years of hospital pharmacy experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
  • Licenses: Registered Pharmacist with the relevant State Pharmacy Council.
