Position Summary:
The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) promotes bilateral trade and investment between the UK and India and believes passionately that the UK-India business partnership creates jobs and growth in both countries. Through our intelligence, influence and interactions, the UK India Business Council’s Membership and Advocacy team supports businesses to achieve success.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Advocacy Director, the Associate Director will be responsible for our work on Digital Economy & Technology. They will play a major role in growing our membership and client base, account managing, and designing and delivering a compelling and impactful programme of activity within the sector.
We are looking for someone with deep sectoral understanding, advocacy expertise, contacts in government and industry, account management and business development skills to:-
Drive the planning and execution of the sectoral and policy advocacy strategy in the UKIBC’s related sector groups, which cover digital and data services and online gaming; and
Expand our activities and membership in both these groups and in wider technology related areas.
This individual will have the opportunity to work closely with by the wider UKIBC senior management, other sector leads, communications and events colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and delivery of digital and data as well as online gaming sector groups’ advocacy agenda, through consultation with members, evolving these in line with emerging regulatory developments.
Effectively advocate on behalf of UKIBC members to policy makers and influencers in relation to India’s data protection, telecom, Digital India regulations, among others. This will include through high-impact policy submissions, and white papers.
Facilitate impactful interactions for members and UKIBC senior management with key stakeholders, including Ministerial and senior government officials, regulators, industry association and alliance partners to advance sectoral public policy positions.
Build deep and meaningful relationship with MEITY and DoT as well as other allied regulators/departments.
Lead the project management of UKIBC’s annual Technology Summits including developing thought leadership content such as annual insight reports and other curated sessions in the run-up or subsequent to the Summit.
Expand UKIBC’s membership and footprint of activities new and emerging areas of technology (such as: space, health-tech, quantum, AI, among others). Explore cross-linkages on digital and technology across other sector advocacy groups working in collaboration with respective sector leads.
Demonstrate thought-leadership through high-quality, credible policy and regulatory intelligence to members through written briefings, regular sector calls and account management as well as external facing comms such as white papers, op-eds, blog, etc.
Grow UKIBC’s membership by proactively engaging with British and Indian investors in UK-India corridor, successfully achieving the commercial targets for this role.
Build and maintain links with key stakeholders and influencers exploring collaborative activities where feasible.
Represent the UKIBC at key stakeholder consultations government or sectoral panels/events led by other industry associations, think tanks etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
At least 10-12 years’ experience in the digital or related sector, including significant experience running public policy efforts at a central and state level in India gained in a corporate, trade association, public affairs consultancy, or government department.
An advanced degree in Public Policy, Economics or Law or a subject related to the digital/technology sectors.
Excellent knowledge of political and policy processes in India, a high awareness of the domestic and international context, and a firm grasp of key public policy issues affecting the digital and technology space.
Strong analytical, organisational, presentational and written skills – the ability to write influential documents.
Advanced Account management expertise, including the ability to build B2B networks.
A proven track record of hitting sales targets.
Excellent communicator with proven ability to influence senior stakeholders in government and corporate.
Ability to learn quickly and think strategically across changing priorities and expanding subject fields.
Highly motivated team player with a hands-on attitude, ability to independently lead and develop creative and evidence-based approaches to policy issues, industry positions and their communication.
The ability to work in a multi-location, multi-time zone environment.
Ability to multi-task, respond flexibly to the needs of the business and members, and self-Organise work effectively on different projects and issues.
Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
