Automation Engineer - SolarWinds OrionRole Summary: We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to manage, optimize and automate various functions of our SolarWinds platform.Key Responsibilities: Administer and maintain the SolarWinds Orion platform, including NPM, NCM, SAM, VNQM, and other modules. Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automating SolarWinds tasks such as Node onboarding/offboarding, Alert suppression or muting during maintenance windows, Custom alert/report generation and distribution, SolarWinds–ServiceNow integration enhancements. Implement custom monitoring logic, automated diagnostics, and integrations via Orion API, SWIS, and REST endpoints. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand automation needs and deliver solutions that support observability workflows. Build tools and utilities to support monitoring self-service, reporting automation, and configuration validation. Manage custom Pollers, SNMP configurations, and agentless/agent-based monitoring across multi-vendor environments. Design and optimize SWQL and SQL queries to support reports and custom dashboards for tailored views. Configure and maintain alert logic, escalation policies, and notification integrations (e.g., with ServiceNow, email, Teams). Participate in incident triage and root cause analysis, leveraging SolarWinds logs and metrics. Maintain security posture of the application, including RBAC, SNMPv3, and audit logging. Contribute to and maintain Kanban board tasks and documentation related to SolarWinds projects and issues.Required Skills and Qualifications5+ years of hands-on experience managing SolarWinds environments (Orion Platform 2020.2.6 or newer).3+ years of PowerShell development experience focused on infrastructure and monitoring automation.Strong experience with Orion SDK, SWQL Studio, and SolarWinds API integrations.Strong understanding of PowerShell classes, modules, error handling, and parallelization techniques.SQL Server knowledge, including query optimization, performance tuning, and CTEs.Familiarity with network topology mapping, NetPath, and NetFlow analysis.Experience in large-scale monitoring environments (>1000 nodes).Solid understanding of Windows Server, IIS, and system-level diagnostics.Comfortable working in Kanban/Agile environments with tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.Strong communication skills to collaborate with multiple teams and technical stakeholders.BenefitsPreferred Skills & Experience: Exposure to event-driven automation, such as responding to alerts with corrective actions.
