The role of a Network Automation Specialist involves managing, optimizing, and automating various functions of the SolarWinds platform.Key responsibilities include administering and maintaining the SolarWinds Orion platform, including NPM, NCM, SAM, VNQM, and other modules. An essential duty is to develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automating tasks such as node onboarding/offboarding, alert suppression or muting during maintenance windows, custom alert/report generation and distribution to integration enhancements.Custom monitoring logic, automated diagnostics, and integrations via API, SWIS, and REST endpoints must be implemented. A strong collaboration with stakeholders is required to understand automation needs and deliver solutions that support observability workflows.Tools and utilities need to be built to support monitoring self-service, reporting automation, and configuration validation.Managing custom Pollers, SNMP configurations, and agentless/agent-based monitoring across multi-vendor environments is crucial.Designing and optimizing queries to support reports and custom dashboards for tailored views is necessary.Configuring and maintaining alert logic, escalation policies, and notification integrations (e.g., with ServiceNow, email, Teams) is vital.Participating in incident triage and root cause analysis, leveraging SolarWinds logs and metrics is a key responsibility.Maintaining security posture of the application, including RBAC, SNMPv3, and audit logging is essential.Contributing to and maintaining documentation related to SolarWinds projects and issues is also important.
