STENUM Asia | Senior Consultant – Energy Management

In this role you will design and deliver resource efficiency (with special focus on energy efficiency and industrial decarbonisation), carbon footprint reduction and other sustainability solutions for clients, both at their business sites as well as remotely from STENUM Asia office, in individual capacity or as a specialist member of a large project team or as a project manager of a small project.

Your principal accountabilities will be to

o    Conduct resource efficiency (RE) assessments (independently or lead a team) at client sites including data collection using measurement and monitoring instruments where needed. This may include (but not limited to) the following:

• Planning and setting up of measuring instruments such as power loggers, water flow meter, flue gas analyser
• Analyse energy bills including utility rates or tariffs to gather historical energy usage data and identify cost saving measures
• Identify and prioritise energy saving measures

o    RE assessment projects will generally have a high emphasis on energy but also include other resources such as water, chemicals, packaging and other materials, as applicable to the client site.

o    Collate, sense check and perform detailed analysis on the data collected from the client to identify improvement options using own knowledge as well as seeking help from other technical experts as required (including identification of appropriate technology vendors if needed and coordinating with them via phone, email).

o    Conduct rigorous cost-benefit analysis of identified improvement options, refine into practical solutions that can be implemented in the client’s business and prepare an implementation plan. In some cases, prepare ‘investment-grade’ detailed project reports for submission to potential lending institutions.

o    Prepare and submit a well formatted, proofread and “easy to understand” report (which includes assessment, solutions and implementation plan) to the client and engage in a positive and supportive manner to get alignment and buy-in from client. Address any client queries related to the technical aspects of the recommendations.

o    Oversee, monitor, support or provide advisory for the actual implementation by the client where that is included in the scope of the project/assignment.

o    Assist STENUM Asia leadership where needed, with proposal development and presentation as well as commercial /contractual activities and related follow-ups during project/assignment.

o    Support other colleagues from other teams during client assignments and internal tasks.

o    Build long-term relationships with new and existing clients (especially for generating repeat business leads).

o    Assist the new business development programs for specific business segments/clients including identifying new clients through networking, referrals and other sources and setting up meetings with the relevant stakeholders at the client.

o    Independently represent the company at specific stakeholder engagements.

o    Supervise one to three junior team members (full time employees and/or interns) and guide and enable them to deliver high performance as well as ensuring they have high engagement with the organization.

o    Take ownership of personal development 

• With guidance and agreement of your manager, obtain at the earliest relevant industry certifications like lead auditor of specific management systems (for example ISO 50001) that are relevant in our client industries.  
• Keep abreast of industry knowledge by reading relevant online and offline professional content, attending networking events, engaging with subject experts and attending training programs conducted by OEM suppliers.
• Develop deep expertise in one or more practice areas, industry groups or functional roles operational at STENUM Asia.

Knowledge, skills and key behaviours required for this role

o    Self-motivated and comfortable with working in a small organization with a high growth agenda.

o    Outgoing with a positive “can do” attitude and ability to take initiative.

o    Excellent listening and comprehension skills.

o    Very good numerical and analytical ability.

o    Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

o    Very good interpersonal skills and ability to engage with junior to senior levels of management at client sites in India and overseas.

o    Willing and comfortable with frequent outstation travel including working in international markets with local clients.

o    A good understanding of resource efficiency concepts in context of environmental sustainability.

o    Adept at using office productivity tools like spread sheets, report writing, presentation software and willingness to learn new digital tools. 

o    A bachelor’s and a master’s degree from a reputed university in electrical, mechanical, chemical, instrumentation, production and any other related engineering discipline with preference given to master’s degree in energy management. 

o    BEE or AEE Energy Auditor or Energy Manager certification is a must for this role

o    At least 4 years of relevant experience in which you have

• Conducted rigorous energy audits at least at 15 sites across different types of industries and prepared assessment reports for clients which include identification of improvement opportunities and related solutions – both process improvements and those requiring technology interventions
• Performed energy use/savings calculations on mechanical equipment and utilities at different types of industries and buildings, for example Boilers, Chillers, Air Handling Units (AHUs), Pumps and Air compressors

o    Proven ability from past work experience to 

• Perform advanced energy efficiency related calculations at equipment and plant level
• Carry out appropriate tests to determine actual performance of industrial equipment against rated/designed energy performance
• Verify savings calculations from third party audit reports 
• Monitor performance of implemented Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) at client site
• Understand and solve a (client) problem using critical thinking and root cause analysis (RCA) techniques
• Manage projects - should be able to do the project management for a small size project or take individual responsibility for specific sub tasks in a large complex project

Having one or more of the following will be an advantage for this role

o    GHG accounting (as per ISO 14064 standard) lead verifier certification

o    ISO 50001 Lead Auditor certification 

o    Past work experience in an energy management/energy efficiency consulting organization 

o    Working knowledge of one or more of following 

• GHG Protocol
• GHG emission (scope 1,2 and 3)/carbon foot printing
• Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
