Project Manager – z/OS Mainframe

This role demands deep technical understanding of z/OS systems and strong project leadership capabilities to manage cross-functional teams, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure timely execution of upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on expertise in mainframe technologies, governance frameworks like ITIL, and project management tools, while driving modernization efforts and operational excellence across the mainframe landscape.Responsibilities:Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe infrastructure and application projectsDevelop and maintain project plans, schedules, risk registers, and status reportsCoordinate with system programmers, storage, networking, application, and security teamsManage change control processes aligned with ITIL and organizational governancePlan and execute z/OS upgrades, IPLs, PTF rollouts, and maintenance activitiesOversee disaster recovery drills and ensure compliance with RTO/RPO objectivesAct as liaison between technical teams and business stakeholdersTrack vendor deliverables, SLAs, and license renewals for IBM and ISV productsFacilitate CAB (Change Advisory Board) approvals and manage cross-team dependenciesDrive process improvements and identify opportunities for mainframe optimizationYour future at KyndrylThere are lots of opportunities to gain certification and qualifications on the job, and you'll continuously grow as a Cloud Hyperscaler. And finally, you're open and borderless – naturally inclusive in how you work with others.Required Technical and Professional Experience:Minimum 10+ years of experience in handling modernization or migration projectsProven experience as a Project Manager in enterprise IT environments, preferably with IBM z/OS mainframe projectsExperience in change, release, and incident management in mainframe contextsFamiliarity with disaster recovery solutions (e.g., GDPS, storage replication)Proficiency in project management tools: MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Clarity PPMExposure to z/OSMF, Zowe CLI, or mainframe DevOps integrationsBachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (mandatory) Preferred Technical and Professional Experience:Proven experience as a Project Manager in enterprise IT environments, preferably with IBM z/OS mainframe projectsStrong understanding of z/OS concepts: LPARs, JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, SMP/E, RACFWorking knowledge of DFSMS, WLM, RMF, and performance monitoring tools (OMEGAMON, MainView – awareness level acceptable)Knowledge of ITIL v4 practices and governance processesExcellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skillsAbility to manage onshore/offshore and cross-functional teamsCertifications: PMP, PRINCE2, or ITIL v4Being YouDiversity is a whole lot more than what we look like or where we come from, it's how we think and who we are.
