Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to join our team.Maintaining a thorough understanding of US mortgage originations, closing procedures, federal and state lending laws is crucial for this role. Additionally, having a solid working knowledge of the 4C's of underwriting, experience with end-to-end underwriting of conventional loans, and a strong grasp of Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) tools is vital.This position requires interpreting state rules, statute laws, federal regulations & investor guidelines, applying them to specific loans, and reviewing loan files for compliance with regulatory and client guidelines/overlays. The ideal candidate will have exceptional analytical skills, including evaluating income & employment, credit strength, capacity to repay, property appraisal, title report; calculating and analyzing LTV/CLTV/HCLTV/DTI/HTI, and checking all other relevant information to make informed credit decisions on each mortgage application.The selected individual will be responsible for accurately calculating various types of income, identifying red flags, and making sound decisions regarding loan approvals or denials. Furthermore, they must analyze risks involved in approving loans to determine their acceptability to lenders. Proficiency in utilizing fraud tools and effectively citing conditions for missing documents is also essential. This role involves daily audits from a closing & compliance standpoint, noting any exceptions.Familiarity with industry-standard software and systemsExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
